Pencil Portrait Oil Sketch Oil Portrait
Mary has painted many portraits over the years using photographs as a reference. Her classical training allows her to capture the likeness and spirit of her subject, and her experience as an illustrator makes her an easy artist to work with, sensitive to your needs and to the integrity of the art.
Four Steps to Creating Your Portrait
1. Decide on which type of portrait you are looking for.
A pencil sketch is done with a variety of pencils or charcoal on a type of quality art paper that suits the subject.
An oil sketch on canvas paper or panel captures the likeness of the subject through loose strokes and transparent washes, giving it a contemporary feel.
An oil painting is a fully rendered image, with or without a background. Gallery wrapped canvas is recommended.
2. Meeting or Teleconference. We will design your own unique piece of art, discussing pose, background color, size and personality traits so that the the spirit of your loved one is best captured.
3. Presentation of the Sketch. Before the paint touches the canvas the subject is sketched out and the values are blocked in. Reviewing the sketch assures that a good likeness is captured and that the size is right. For long distance clients a photograph of the sketch is sent or a FaceTime call is scheduled.
4. Delivery of the Finished Portrait. Your unique work of art is not finished until it meets with your complete satisfaction. Reviewing the art in the sketch stage eliminates major changes. Minor changes are easily and gladly made.
